Can I sue for back rent

I had a room mate that moved out in the middle of the night while I was at work leaving me with the apartment and all the bills. I was wondering if I could sue for not only back rent owed, but for half of what remains on the lease - 5 months?

If you have a written lease listing both of you as tenants. An oral agreement is worthless.

Sure you can sue but collecting is another problem. You may be able to sue in small claims or county court without an attorney or look to go on one of the TV shows.
