Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Florida

Can I sue for wrongful arrest?

I was accused of stealing a credit card last year and was arrested on a felony forgery charge. I had to get a lawyer and went through a year of pre-trial before they finally dropped my case due to handwriting evidence and other evidence that proved I didn't make the credit card purchases. However, I was told I can't expunge my record even though I never stole the card in the first place. Also, I am a nurse and I was unable to hold a nursing job while I had a pending felony charge on my record. I was also told I can't countersue for damages this charge has done for me. Is that true?
