taking keys from drunk customer

can a bar owner or manager take the keys away from an obviously drunk patron?

Bar owners can take keys from a drunk customer. Not only that, but they have been sued for failing to do so in some jurisdictions.

Interesting question. I would think you would want to make sure that they are really too drunk to drive and try to keep them from getting too mad because you did serve them that much and they could sue you for false imprisonment. Maybe someone here is more familiar with this issue, but there may be a statute that protects you somewhat. Let me know if you want me to do some research on this.
