Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Florida
I worked for a company Perma Staff Associates, LLC. and I arranged a loan for the owner Stephanie Armstrong from my Grandmother of $6,000 in February of 2008. She has not paid anything on this loan since then. I also have worked temporary jobs in 2009 for Perma Staff and have not been compensated approximately $500 in salary.
Can my Grandmother give me power of attorney to sue Stephanie Armstrong and Perma Staff Associates on behalf of her. My grandmother lives in Denver, Colorado, but she wired the money to Stephanie Armstrong in Florida. And can I also include the uncompensated wages in that same suit. Also, since this is not a small claims suit can I still file it on my own without a lawyer.

Since you are not a lawyer, you cannot represent your Grandmother in court. However, if she were to assign the note (is there a written note for the debt?), you could then sue in your own right on both claims.
You cannot represent another person in court with a POA unless you are an attorney. However, Mr. DeLancett is correct that your grandmother may assign the note to you, making it your personal cause of action, and then you may pursue it in court yourself.
No, as my colleagues have said, you cannot sue on your grandmother's behalf. She can hire an attorney to sue for her or the note can be assigned to you. If the note is assigned to you, then you can represent yourself in court even though it is not a small claim. Hope this helps. Best of luck.
