Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Florida
I worked at a local bar in my neighborhood. I was let go on Oct.30. My manager fired me. A few weeks later, my manager went to the bar and told the bar owner and all the bar guests that " Yeah, I wouldn't hire that guy back. He's in jail for doing methanfetamens (sorry for the spelling) ". For that I believe the bar owner would not hire me back and I am having trouble finding a job bartending. Its been 2 months without a job. I believe that my manager ruined my reputation by saying that to the entire bar. I have NEVER been arrested or in jail and do no drugs of any kind. Is this considered Defamation??? please let me know.

Absolutely. If there is no truth to it and you can prove that that is why you were fired or others have not hired you, you are entitled to damages. Why would your manager say such a thing?
