Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Florida
For years we have been told that the doctor's office does not need our Social Security number to process claims, unless that number is our actual insurance ID number. The reason was based upon the amount of identity theft that originated from practitioners' employees selling the information for illegal use.
Is it now becoming the mandate that every patient will now be required to submit his/her SS Number for tracking purposes?
Thanks.

To my knowledge, this is not a legal question. To my knowledge, there is no law which states one way or another. If you don't trust your doctor's office enough to give them your SSN, maybe you should switch doctors.
