Legal Question in Health Care Law in Florida

applying for medicaid and food stamps

My family and I was basically forced to move to Jacksonville Florida due to my husband inheriting a house that we did not want to loose. We feel that a house is definitly hard to come by considering we just moved from a one bedroom cramped apartment in New York City, now that we are here when we tried to apply for medicaid and food stamps we were told that we had to be living here in jacksonville florida for at least 6 months before we can apply for anything. Is this True?

Re: applying for medicaid and food stamps

Since medicaid and food stamps are "State Programs" you must establish residency in the state where you are applying before you can claim the benefits.

Contact the local medicaid office and find out what you can do to expedite the process once you have established residency and what you can do to ensure that you properly establish it.
