Legal Question in Health Care Law in Florida
Dentist lawsuit?
My wife was fitted with a temporary partial bottom denture about 8 months ago. About 6 months ago, she was pulling out her dentures and a very sharp piece of metal punctured her bottom lip. Her bottom lip became infected (very red, chapped, painful with some bleeding). She has been to several doctors more than once who have prescibed meds (last one a specialist). Each time she takes the meds the problem almost goes away. But, it always comes back again. Right now, her bottom lip looks like raw meat and is very painful. Should I go after the Dentist that gave her this denture (note: she did see the dentist again about the sharp piece of metal - a nurse agreed it was very sharp and filed it down)?

Re: Dentist lawsuit?
The legislature has passed special laws to protect doctors from lawsuits. Remember all of those ads? As a result it is very expensive to bring a claim. Absent a significant permanent injury it is extremely rare that the amount of any recovery would cover the costs of the suit. That is the way those we elected and sent to Tallahassee have protected doctors from so-called "frivolous" lawsuits.
