Legal Question in Health Care Law in Florida
Is it legal for a pharmacy worker to scream across the pharmacy that the prescription you dropped off is too soon and the insurance will not pay for it (The name of the medication was not mentioned just my name)? Instead of walking down to the counter where I was located to give me this information. Just curious what HIPAA protects against.

Although it may be unprofessional for the pharmacy worker to scream across the pharmacy, it is very unlikely this violated HIPAA according to the information presented in your question. Among many protections, HIPAA protects against PHI (private health information). In your situation, it does not appear a third party would be able to link your name with any other health information other than you were there to pick up a prescription.
