Legal Question in Health Care Law in Florida

mdical bill for deceased spouse

Is my father responsible for a medical bill, incurred by mother, who has passed away? We have called many times and now it has gone to collection. If not, how do we resolve this?

Re: mdical bill for deceased spouse

Whether your father is responsible for your mother's bill depends on whether he signed anything that assumed responsibility for the debt. Usually, among the stack of forms that a hospital has peop-le sign when they get there is such a document. Only the person going to a hospital should sign forms at the hospital unless you are certain that you know what you are signing and have read "the fine print." Ask to see a copy of the contract with your father that would obligate him to make any payments.
