medical bills
It is my understanding that if you are at least paying a dollar a month on you bill, they have to take it. Is this true

No. I am sure they would take whatever you send them, but it does not prevent them from bringing a claim against you for the full amounht owed, obtaining a judgment and pursuing more rigorous collection efforts.
