The answer to your question would depend on how you entered the country. What type of visa or status do you currently have? Also, is the petty theft your only criminal offense? I do recommend that you speak with an immigration attorney to explore your options. Then you can decide from there whether you need him/her to assist you with your green card application. Give me a call at your earliest convenience.
