Legal Question in Immigration Law in Florida

Arrest or deportation when leaving US ?

I have a friend who entered the US with a J-1 student visa. His visa and I-94 form expired on October 1 st 2005.He has stayed in the US over his visa period (for another month).I would like to know if the customs officers at the airport would ask him many questions, arrest him or have him deported if he would try to leave the US and go back home to Romania now? What are the exact procedures in this kind of case? After all, he is trying to get back home.Is he going to be held and questioned, or it is just a matter of answering 2-3 short questions to the officer?

Thank you

Re: Arrest or deportation when leaving US ?

It's unlikely your friend will encounter any problems leaving the US. Unless there is something in your friend's background that you don't know, it's very unlikely that he will be questioned or held for questioning upon his departure from the US.
