Legal Question in Immigration Law in Florida
Can i become a US citizen if my husband owes money back to the unemployment?
I'm a US permanent resident, i'm about to apply for US citizenship BUT my husband has been paid unemployment benefits years ago that he was NOT eligible to receive so he was overpaid, the overpayment is considered non-fraud AND we file taxes jointly every year, he is being making monthly payments of $50 to the unemployment,he owes about $6500 ,I just want to know if i apply for citizenship my application will get approved or NOT? and if NOT what would he have to do in order to make me qualify for US citizenship? In the form N-400 there is a questi0n in part 11:do you owe any overdue Federal,State, or local taxes?should i answer NO or Yes?, we don't owe taxes BUT he owes the unemployment. Thanks in advance,i appreciate it.

I do not see that this issue would be relevant to your application for naturalization.
