Legal Question in Immigration Law in Florida

Citizenship

If a permanent resident applies for citizenship, is useless to expunge any misdemeanor conviction, because anyway I have to disclose it to USICS...

am I right??? or I can expunge my conviction and mark no for convictions in the box when filling the application for naturalization.?

Re: Citizenship

The question is whether you have ever been arrested, convicted, etc. If you have, you say yes. It doesn't matter whether your conviction was expunged because an arrest remains on your record; and the FBI will find it via your fingerprints. So, it's okay to reveal it. If it is only one misdemeanor conviction and it was convicted more than five years prior to your getting your interview. Be ready to explain why you were convicted. Did you plead guilty? Also, what will matter is what the crime was. In immigration law, some misdemeanors can still be considered aggravated felonies. I suggest before you file you find a good immigration lawyer to review the conviction and determine whether it will not impact your citizenship application. Good luck!
