Extenson of visitors visa

hi,

I am doctor from india.I have 10years multiple entry visitors visa to usa.i came from india in august 2003 and got 6 months stay(until feb 9 2004).In november i left to west indies to visit my sister for a week.while coming back i faced problems with the immigration in Miami,immigration officer questioned me(why am i coming so frequently?) for 1 hour and gave visa only until feb 5 2004.He specifically told me not to extend my visa and not to come back immediately.He wrote on my I 94 as NO EXTENSIONS.This is the crucial time for me and should stay here to join post graduation(residency) for 2004.I cleared boards exams.I should stay until june 2004 to get into residency.please advise what should i do and help me in this regard.

Normally, a foreign medical student can use the B-1 visa to complete required training in the U.S. Is this your case? In such case, it may be necessary to educate the inspector. If not, then you may need a work authorized status.

Your questions is interesting and seems to revolve around the issue of whether the handwritten "no extensions" bars you from actually getting an extension. While in practice I would say that it will prevent your extension, the legal questions is one that requires research on my part but would probably fall in your favor. Hope this helps
