F1 marrying green card girl

I am on my opt and my opt will end on feb'10. if i marry a girl with green card, how long will i have to maintain f1 status to get the green card on marrying a girl with green card basis?

Dear Inquirer:

If you marry a green card holder, you would have to wait at least 5 years before a visa would become available through her petition for you. This means that you would have to maintain your status the entire time to be eligible to adjust status in the US. If she is eligible for naturalization, however, you would be able to file for adjustment of status right after she becomes a citizen, and you would be exempt from the requirement that you maintained your nonimmigrant status the whole time you were here in order to adjust status.
