Generally speaking, all one has to do to become a Florida citizen is to be present in the state with the intent of remaining. A few examples of remaining in the state can be demonstrated by having a Florida dwelling as your primary residence, getting a Florida driver's license, and registering to vote. However, one must use caution if you intend to use a Florida residency for income tax purposes or to take advantage of Florida's liberal divorce laws. Such laws have or may have specific time periods to establish residency in addition to the mentioned requirements.
