Legal Question in Immigration Law in Florida

Fraud

I would like to get the money ($4,000) back from a lady in Florida that claimed to be an INS Officer. When we submitted the paper work and the money, approximately 4 years ago, she disappeared. I have since found her and now have an address/telephone number for her.

Do I file with the Small Claims Court here in California or do I have to file in Florida? What are the forms that I need to submit? Do I need a lawyer?

Re: Fraud

You should contact your local police department and pursue your civil suit. Also report her to the Unauthorized Practice Section of the California Bar.

Re: Fraud

This question is in the wrong category. It's not an immigration law Q but should be in the civil small claims category.

You're out of luck in California. File a lawsuit in Florida. This lady has nothing to do with California if the fraud occurred in Florida. This state has no jurisdiction over some private person in FLA.
