Legal Question in Immigration Law in Florida

My husband is from South Africa and currently is awaiting permanant residence. He needed a sponsor so he has been sponsored by close friends of ours for the past 2 years. We have decided to return to South Africa to live permanantly next year due to financial issues and family. But our financial issues are piling up and our vehicles are about to be reposessed and the bank says they will take us to court and take everything we own. I thought maybe we should file bankruptcy but am concerned that they could then go after my husbands sponsor for the deliquent amounts. But if we don't file and have to go to court and have a case against us, would that be an issue with leaving the country permanantly, and could they still hold his sponsor responsible? Any advice would be helpful, as we just do not know what to do. Thank you, sincerely.

This is not really an immigration issue. So, you may want to re-direct your bankruptcy question to a different part of Law Guru. Otherwise, know that if you abandon or give up the residency petition for your husband, you may need to start over again if you return to the U.S. As well, if you are residing overseas, the process may be different.
