Legal Question in Immigration Law in Florida
Illegal husband
When my husband and I got married, I thought had finsihed all his paper work. I recently discovered he has done nothing and is here illegally from Canada. I want a divorce and he says he will turn himself in and he will get deported and I will go to jail for harboring an illegal. Is this true???? I want out of this marriage.

Re: Illegal husband
Tell your husband that he is wrong -- you will not be charged with harboring an illegal alien, okay! He will be charged with not having legal documents and rendered deportable. Now, if you are a U.S. citizen, why didn't you make sure the paperwork had been filled out and mailed properly if you were the person who was petitioning on his behalf? He should probably get a lawyer, but it would be almost a waste of time if he continues to try to blame you for the problem. So he had better sharpen up -- you haven't done anything wrong from the facts you have given. Good luck!
