l 1 visa
If someone gets fired or laid off while on an L 1 visa do they have to go back to there country or can they transfer the L 1 to another country.

No, an L-1 visa is specific to the employer you are working for. It can only be transferred to another company owned by your foreign or U.S. employer. But keep in mind that there are other alternatives for professional workers, with a Bachelor's degree or many years of experience. An H-1B visa may be an option in this case.
