Legal Question in Immigration Law in Florida

I am about to loose my job

I have been in the United States for almost 9 years. I went to college here and had student visa and now I am on H1B visa which will expire this year in September. I am feeling I will get laid off very soon. I want to know if I can still remain in the US and look for a job if I were to loose my current job? How long can I stay? Thank you for your help.

Re: I am about to loose my job

When your job is terminated, you will technically be out of status and will have to depart. Depending on how many years you've had H-1B status, you can re-claim it during a limited time period and return to the U.S. again in H-1B status. There are rights that you have if you are laid off, but I would consider looking for a new specialty position if you are certain of your fears.
