You'll need to apply for your permanent residence first.

Re: getting married to a us citizen

Dear Inquirer:

Getting married to a US Citizen does not automatically confer lawful permanent resident status on a foreign national spouse. You must be petitioned for immigrant status by your spouse and either file an application for adjustment of status, assuming you are legally in the US already; or apply for an immigrant visa at the US Embassy in Canada.
