Legal Question in Immigration Law in Florida
Misdemeanor Charge
I am a resident of the United States since 1981. In 1995 I was arrested for possession of marijuana. I paid a fine and presented the disposition letter to INS in N.Y. so that my passport and green card could be returned. I was advised that the case would be closed. I recently traveled out of the country and when I returned INS held my passport for the case in 1995. They requested that I provided them with a copy of the disposition letter within 30 days and they will return my passport. Could INS detain me for these misdemeanor charges?
