Legal Question in Immigration Law in Florida
As a private citizen of the U.S., can I ask a person if they can prove to me they are in the U.S legally, if, for example, I ask a Hispanic person to do some work for me.
What documents constitute being in the U.S. legally?

Many non-U.S. citizens (Hispanic or otherwise) are eligible to work in the United States. If you are hiring an employee, then you can verify that they are eligible to work in the United States. The Department of Labor maintains a detailed website with current employment laws and regulations regarding qualifications/documents for work in the United States at: http://www.dol.gov/asp/programs/guide.htm. Also, even as a private citizen you should note that hiring employees may create federal employment tax obligations.
