Remarrying

hello there! My question is this one: My friend who is an american citizent wants to help me by marrying me, the problem is that she is getting divorce, and she was doing the same thing for her husband, she was helping him for his legally too. So i would like to know if there is gonna be any major problems? thank u

Yes it could be a major problem if it is determined that your marriage is not legitimate, but only to obtain residency.

You are contemplating what is known as a sham marriage, which means a marriage entered solely for purposes of gaining immigration benefits. This is illegal and the USCIS has many ways of discovering the problem. And their inquiry will be even more careful in light of the previous marriage of your contemplated "spouse" for the same purpose.

I would highly recommend that you not enter this marriage and instead hope and pray that they pass comprehensive immigration reform soon (another disadvantage is that your sham marriage COULD be a disqualifying event EVEN UNDER any new law--we have no way of knowing--but this could be a ground of inadmissibility in the future, which means you could never even benefit from any new laws if you take this step and get caught). The other option is to start dating somehow and actually fall in love with a U.S. citizen, enter a legitimate marriage, and not have these worries.
