Legal Question in Insurance Law in Florida
automobile accident liability
About 3 yrs ago, our son (who was 17 and on our insurance policy) loaned his car (title in his name) to a friend. The friend, who was 17, had insurance on his mother's policy. The friend ran into another car, fairly minor (or so it seemed). We just received notice from our insurer that we are being sued for $500,000 by the older couple that was in the other car. What is our responsibility? Do we need to hire a lawyer or should our insurance company be handling this? The mother of the boy that was driving claims she hasn't received a letter although we see that she was 'cc' on our letter. Thank you for your time.

Notify your insurance carrier at once. If you are underinsured you should also hire your own attorney to protect you.
