Legal Question in Insurance Law in Florida
car insurance-in one state, live in another
I currently am leasing a car. I got it when we lived in FL. Now we live in GA and our daughter still lives in FL. (In a dorm in Tallahassee, not our previous area in FL.) She has the car. She is 18.It is still registered in my husbands and my name. The car insurance is so high in FL. Is it possible to get car insurance in GA for that car, but keep the FL plates? I want to add this car to our GA car insurance, but I want to keep FL plates on that car. Is there a problem with that?

Nope, can't do that. It will void the coverage. You must tell the insurance company where the car is and who uses it. If the car is in Florida and it is used in florida, even though you are on the title, you need Florida coverage.
By the way -- a word to the wise: get your names off the title if you do not use the car and only your daughter uses the car. Under (at least) Florida law, the owner of a car is responsible for the negligence of the driver. That is, if your daughter runs a red klight and hurts someone, you can be sued if you own the car. There are limitations on what can be recovered, but you are asking to be a defendant if you own a car, but it is really your daughter's vehicle. Transfer the title to her.
