Legal Question in Insurance Law in Florida

Employer canceled my Health Insurance coverage without my Knowledge

When I noticed that health insurance deductions were not being taken out of my paycheck I asked my manager about it. He said he would check on it for me. Now I just got a notice in the mail saying that my Health insurance has been terminated as of Dec. 15, 2006. Management told me I needed to talk to the Corporate office, so I did finally get in touch with the man they said to talk to. He was irate and rude with me and said it was my responsibility to know what I need to pay, yet they never notified me of any balance due...and they were'nt even taking out any deductions from my paycheck. I had no warning or explanation why this happened. Now they are telling me I can be reinstated if I pay back what was not taken out. I'm pregnant and do not want a lapse in coverage. Was this a fair thing for my employer to do? Why would they just take it upon themself to cancel my coverage? They never notified me and when I asked them why they didn't notify me, they hung up on me over the phone.

YTour employer should have told you about the coverage cancellation. Sounds like they are willing to reinstate everything if you just pay what would have been paid if it had not been cancelled. That shouldn't create a lapse in coverage. That sounds like a fair solution.
