Legal Question in Insurance Law in Florida
What are my obligations to pay for medical insurance coverage which I thought had been cancelled now that I am getting the first bill for this cost 2 and 1/2 years later?
Explanation: I work outside of the US (in India) as an airline pilot. My job was obtained thru a head hunter in Canada. The head hunter company provides free medical insurance for me personally. We requested insurace coverage for my wife who accompanies me in India. Once her coverage was issued we were informed there were exclusions that would make the coverage virtually useless. We communicated to the people in Canada that I disapproved of these exclusions and they were to contact the insurance company (BUPA - from England) as to why there were so many exclusions. No response was ever given from either the people in Canada or from BUPA. I also requested a bill from the Canada people six months after coverage was initiated. No response was ever given and no bill was ever received. So I assumed the coverage was cancelled. Now 2 and 1/2 years after the fact they are billing me over $10,000 for medical coverage which was never used.

If you can prove it was cancelled and never used, I would contest it.
