Legal Question in Intellectual Property in Florida

Computers

I have a computer which my ex girlfriend downloaded a bunch of pictures on, from her camera. I can't find them and may have accidently deleted them. We have since broken up, and she is requesting that I let her check my computer for things that might be hers. I don't feel comfortable with her being here, let alone being on my computer. I fear she will delete some of my files, just for spite. She insists she owns the copyright of the picutes, even though she herself put them on the computer. Am I in my legal rights to tell her no, and refusing to let her touch my personal computer?

Re: Computers

Get rid of any compromising photos of her and then forget about it.

Re: Computers

You do not have to let your ex-girlfriend touch your stuff (including your PC, even though she may have files located thereon).

However, you're a nice guy and you want the breakup to be as amicable as possible, right? Why don't you and she and a disinterested third party -- maybe a friend of yours -- all sit down at your PC with YOU at the keyboard and search for her photos. If you find them, burn her as many CDs as it takes to get all her pictures stored thereupon and hand those CDs to her; then, in her presence and in the presence of the disinterested third party, delete the files from your computer. Make sure both your ex-girlfriend and the third party see you delete the files (i.e., see you perform the function to empty the Trash). That way, any question of copyright infringement later on can be easily defeated.

If you can't find the files, then you probably deleted them; all you can do is tell her you're sorry and if you find them in the future you'll get them to her.

Yes to both questions. Why don't you get the program Picasso, run it to locate all your pix and see if there's anything on your computer belonging to her, just as a good guy. If there is, send them to her. I believe the program is share ware.
