Legal Question in Intellectual Property in Florida

I paid 3rd party to build my website and they used photographes that they did not own the rights to use. The company that owns the license is sueing me. They say that even though I paid an other company for my website I am still responsible not the designer of the website for the compensation to them.

I would think think the company that designed the site would be liable for this?

As a Franchise Attorney I can say this. It sounds like the web site design company is liable, but that's not a defense to a lawsuit brought by the copyright owner. If you get sued, you would have to counterclaim against the design company. Try to have them work it out with the copyright owner and consult with a good business or franchise attorney in your area to review whatever contracts were signed and for specific advice.
