Legal Question in Intellectual Property in Florida

Slander on a public web forum

A person made this statement about me on a forum on a public website, where he inferred that I am not honest. I feel that as I am an author, and as this statement was made on a public forum, it may have an injurious effect on my ability to sell future works. Here is the partial statement.

'' ''One would think that an honest man with intelligence would know the difference between a scam printer and a legitimate publishing house. Obviously, that man isn't Don.''''

This was made by man who owns one of the large websites for and about authors. The site he owns is called Preditors and Editors, and the site where this statement was made is the Absolute Write website. I would think that if the remark is slanderous, then both him personally as well as the website where it was posted are at fault. If so, I would consider a lawsuit.

The website may be protected but the person who made the post could be sued. I'd have to know more to determine your chance of winning and collecting any damages. In any case, this would be a basis for filing suit.
