Legal Question in Intellectual Property in Florida

I am starting up a gospel group and have decided on a name for us. I want to make certain the name is not used anywhere else in the music field (or anywhere else for that matter) so I want to know how to proceed to legally make certain the group name is unique and not to be used for any other group or entity.....

Use an attorney to do a search, at the federal level, of all registered names so you can see where you stand. If there is no one else using the name, you can protect it as a service mark by a registration with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. Consult with a trademark attorney in your area for specifics.
