Legal Question in Employment Law in Florida

4 months ago I was fired from my job as an accounting recruiter (the company handled accounting & administration recruiting). I just recently found a new position as a recruiter with another firm that in addition to handling accounting and administration also handle light industrial.

I have been very careful not to solicit any clients of my old employer. I just received a notice in the mail telling me that I was not allowed to work for a competitor.

I understand if I was soliciting their clients, but I'm not. Can they keep me from being employed?!! and can they enforce this when I have done nothing to harm their business?

It depends upon the terms of your non-compete contract. If no contract, then there are no terms to restrict your future employment. If there is a contract, you should have an attorney look it over to determine your rights.
