Can I be let go if I take six 6 months sick leave and the company needed to hire some one to do my work while I am gone.

Yes, you can probably be terminated, unless you have a contractual arrangement with your job, or your company has a contrary policy (which is sometimes the case with government jobs), or unless the "sick leave" was caused by an on-the-job injury (worker's comp) or some other protected category.
