Legal Question in Employment Law in Florida

Backcharges and fines

I work for a company that subcontracts from a major company to do install work. Recently in the middle of the contract year, a new provision on how one is paid, backcharged, and fined! for completion of work. If I made 60$ on the job, and I happen to forget as much as a tag or didnt cut a tie-wrap, I can be backcharged the entire job of 60$ plus fined an additional 75$. Please help...

Re: Backcharges and fines

Does your written contract allow for such changes in the terms of your employment and in compensation?? Those new terms don't seem fair, to say the least. Could this be a breach of contract???Suggestion: band together with other workers similarly affected, and get a local attorney to represent you. The key will be if you and the others were aware of this new policy/penalty when you entered into your initial contract. Plus, call USDOL Wage and Hour Inspector, and ask them if that practice violates the Minimum Wage Laws, since in effect , you are working for free., i.e. no min. wage at all. This are informal comments, and due to the seriousness of this vis a vis your livelihood, I strongly urge you to contact local counsel to review this matter.
