Legal Question in Employment Law in Florida

Boss trying to make me quit

After having a child, my son has torticoullis, and the only time I could get his therapy was monday mornings at 8:30 am as they are only open until 5 on weekdays, and not on weekends. My boss has told me that if I am late arriving to work and I quote '' I voulintarily quit''. I don't wish to quit my job, however I need to take my son to his therapy sessions so this does not become a more serious problem. I have offered to stay late on mondays, with no response. I was under the impression that if my boss chooses that I no longer work there then in fact I would be fired, and they could not make me quit. Despite how they choose to word it.

Re: Boss trying to make me quit

You might have protection under the federal Family & Medical Leave Act which permits you to miss time up to 12 weeks per year without pay for a serious medical condition of your own or an immediate family member. You are entitled to take the lease as needed; i.e. if needed Monday mornings for your son's treatment. If you would like to follow up on this, please feel free to contact me for a consultation.
