Legal Question in Employment Law in Florida
Corp. Overtime Policy - Florida
I work for a very large retailer in Florida as an hourly employee. It is our companies policy to not treat job related travel time as part of our normal hourly work day. Example: I travel 4 hours for a training course, attend the class for 8 hours and work the rest of my week, another 32 hours. At the end of my week I have 40 hrs standard time and 4 hours travel. I am paid for 40hrs at normal rate plus 4 hours travel at normal rate, under the explaination the money comes from another budget catogory (otherwise I would be forced to reduce my normal weekly hours by 4 so I would not be over 40 and hence have overtime). This does not seem correct, yet I am assured it is. If my company is not paying me or my fellow employess correctly they are pocketing millions of dollars a year of our money just in the state of Florida. Is the company wrong or right?
