Legal Question in Employment Law in Florida

defamation of character

I was released from a job as a server, the reason was because I was too slow on the job. Then I was told by other patrons that the other servers were telling customers I was fired for stealing out of the cash register. It was counted every night and register tape ran. I was never told I was short on the drawl. How do I go about stopping this slander? Its embarrassing and humiliating and also not true!

Re: defamation of character

Not too much you can do this from a practical standpoint b/c it would likely be way too expensive for you to hire an attorney to sue your former employer for this. However, it is technically illegal for someone to publish knowingly false statements about you in regards to your profession to third parties.
