Re: Demotion and pay cut

Absent some contractual obligation, an employer can cut pay and increase responsibilities without any recourse.

The contractual obligation can stem from a written contract for employment which, under Florida law must contain a fixed duration (i.e. cannot be terminable at will), or it can include a collective bargaining agreement with a union. Absent this, the employer is free to terminate your employment at will, and hence, it can terminate your employment if you complain about your pay being cut and your responsibilities increasing.
