Legal Question in Employment Law in Florida
Employee forced to pay company losses
My husband is an electrian. There was an accidental fire on his jobsite. His employer is making him pay the $500 deductible for the company's insurance. Is this allowed under the labor laws? If an employee has a loan through the company, is he required to pay it back in full if he leaves the company?

Re: Employee forced to pay company losses
There is no law that allows an employer to make your husband pay the money back. If there is no agreement that your husband entered saying he would be responsible (such as a policy that your husband agreed to), then the employer may not force him to pay. (Nor can they withhold pay.)
Employees must pay loans back if they leave employment (it is a contractual obligation, regardless of whether you are employed), unless there is an agreement to the contrary.
