Legal Question in Employment Law in Florida
Employer abandons business
My husband works for a small company with only 3 employees plus the boss. Boss has been absent for a month and is not answering any phone calls. In the meantime, the employees have not been paid for 2 weeks. There is little money coming in. Question: can they legally close the shop and seek unemployment? What is the best course of action? Thanks for your advice!

Well, it's not theirs to close and they have not been fired. I would try to track down the owner to see what is up.

I believe they can stop working if they have not been paid, give the employer notice, and then seek unemployment.
