Legal Question in Employment Law in Florida

An employer arranged an on-the-job-interview because he wanted to observe how I would perform in the work environment. Since this is not unheard of I agreed. I ended up working a full-time (8-11 hours depending on the day) schedule for 2 weeks. I was often left alone for hours taking on all of the responsibilities of a full-time employee (in fact at times I was the only "employee" in the building). When asked if I had received the job, I did not get a definitive answer for 2 weeks. I was eventually offered the job but never compensated for that 2 weeks. It doesn't seem fair that my employer can receive free labor under the guise of an interview for 2 weeks. Do I have rights to unpaid wages?

Yes, I believe you are entitled to compensation. The law only requires that you be paid minimum wage for the hours worked, plus time and a half for hours over 40 per week. You should retain an attorney to fully assess your situation and assist you in collecting what is owed to you.
