Legal Question in Employment Law in Florida

Employer ''monitoring'' Employee

Is it legal for an employer to put monitoring software on a PC that an employee is using at work, with camera equipment attached so that profile shots can be seen even by patrons who have bluetooth technology on their cell phones and ANYONE can veiw without, first, the employees knowledge?

Re: Employer ''monitoring'' Employee

There is nothing to prohibit such a practice as long as the computer is the employers and not the employees.

Re: Employer ''monitoring'' Employee

Yes, if the employer owns your computer, then he/she can put monitoring software on it. Camera equipment can also be attached to the computer so video monitoring of an employee is available. Basically, you have no privacy rights at your desk at work on your work computer which owned by your employer. So don't be doing anything your should not be doing or surfing the web anywhere that you should not be. Usually, an employer puts language in their employee handbook saying that employee survelliance/computer survelliance may occur at work and it allowable. That is not required under Florida law. It is just a good business practice.
