Legal Question in Employment Law in Florida
Employer plannning on arresting me?
I work in a franchised restaurant, and do not get along with the owner/operator. I have recently become friends with a minor of the opposite gender (I'm 21), and this has sent the operator on edge, and made him more angry at the both of us. I've been told to stop talking to my co-worker several times, but I've always maintained that who I talk to outside of work is my business, and my personal relations, no matter how much he may speculate about them, aren't his concern. Both of us have made it clear that we do not appreciate this sort of treatment at work, since our relationship has not graduated to any level where it may be a concern of anyone around us.
Today it was pointed out to me by a manager worried about the situation that he has the management team taking note of our break times (to see if we go at the same times) and to monitor our conversations in an effort to collect information in order to arrest me for something or other, probably stemming from our age difference. From what I understand, Florida is right to work, meaning he could fire me for anything he pleased, but this just seems malicious. Is this behavior on his part acceptable?

Re: Employer plannning on arresting me?
Your Employer 100% has a right to monitor this situation and in fact, in my opinion, has an obligation to do so. Additionally, if your emloyer wants to create a policy forbidding you from dating fellow employees--regardless of their age--they are also within their rights to do so, as it is their business and they can make policies as they see fit. I know you may not necessarily agree, but again, its their business, so its their rules.
