My employer is skimming time off my hours

I've worked as an assistant manager for my company for 8 years.

I'm a hourly worker and just found out they've been taking time off my check to get out of paying overtime. I have printed proof of this. I don't know if I should contact a lawyer or just go to the labor board, I'm not interested in a big settlement, but I wouldn't be happy with just a slap on the wrists either. What would the punishment for this be?

Your recourse is to demand payment in writing and then retain an attorney to recover your unpaid wages x 2 (called liquidated damages).

In addition to the previous answer, you need to be aware that the statute of limitations is 2 years, or 3 years if willful. Therefore, depending on how long this has been occurring, you may want to file suit as soon as possible to preserve your right to damages.
