My employer has threatened to fire me if I refuse to work out of town. I am salaried. The out of town work is a six hour drive from where I live and where the company is based. I will be required to drive on my "own" time, work 12 consecutive days ten to twelve hours a day followed by 48 hours off. I must travel during my 48 hours off if I wish to go home; the company pays for my gas @ 18 cents a mile. I am a Florid resident, my company is incorporated in Florida. Can the company require this? If I refuse and they fire me will I be denied unemployment for refusing work?

They can do this legally, but if you refuse, that situation is enough to allow you to collect unemployment benefits, regardless of what he tells you. Refusal to submit to substantial changes to your employment qualifies for unemployment compensation.
