Legal Question in Employment Law in Florida

Employer withholding wages

I recently switched jobs. My previous employers withheld $775 dollars, for reasons not dealing with work in any way. My boss knows my landlord and feels I owe him back rent. Is this in anyway legal? Is there anything I can do to regain the wages?

Re: Employer withholding wages

Only certain types of debts are permitted to be withheld from wages. It is advisable you contact the Department of labor and they will pursue any wages on your behalf.

Re: Employer withholding wages

It is illegal for your employer to deny you wages for work you've already completed regardless of the reason (or lack thereof). I routinely help employees in your situation get their wages throughout the state of Florida. I handle these cases on a contingency. Feel free to call me for a free telephone consultation.
